Renovated shop-houses on a Singapore street. The architecture here reflects the mix of cultures: chinese and south-east asian, with a strong european touch...

Orchard Road is one of the main shopping districts in Singapore. Shopping seems to be the national sport, and expecially on weekends and public holidays the streets fill up. This picture was not taken on a weekend.

A suggestive view of technology meeting religion. Singapore has a very efficient transportation system, of which the subway (MRT) is the jewel.

The traffic is usually very well-behaved, in comparison to similar large cities in the rest of the world. Part of this is due to the strict system of fines for which Singapore is well renowned, and part to the high cost of owning a car. This said, I admit that the picture is a bit too idyllic: there are cars in Singapore.

A tropical storm building up along the beach. Singapore lies just 200 km north of the Equator, and enjoys a relatively uniform weather year-round: temperatures usually around 30C, and lots of rain mixed with bright sunshine.

Along Singapore East Coast, fishing is a hobby to be enjoyed even against the prospect of imminent rain and a very meager catch.

Singapore is world famous as the "Fine City". The list of forbidden activities can be quite amazing.

The Singapore skyline at night. Do not expect to see necessarily the same one when you get there, as buildings are torn down and rebuilt very fast. Singapore must have the highest fraction of architects in the world.

The Boat Quay area at night. This is where tired shoppers, young lovers and career-minded yuppies gather to eat their dinners.

The Singapore zoo is one of the main attractions, and well worth a visit.
