The solar observatory in Udaipur looks more like a tropical paradise than anything else. It is built on an island in the middle of an artificial lake, in order to take advantage of the reduced turbulence of the atmosphere, which thanks to the lake is less subject to the large temperature changes between night and day in this desert environment.

I visited in November/December 1995. No matter how you turn it around, the truth is: a first visit to India is going to be different from anything else you have seen before. Some fall in love with it, some others swear never to come back. I can see good arguments for both.
